Another contemporary romance book I snagged off the Barnes & Noble bargain table, Since You’ve Been Gone by Anouska Knight is a charming novel. And it has baking in it! Always a selling point for me.
Another selling point is that it takes place in the British Isles, England specifically. For some reason, I’ve always loved reading books set in that area. Maybe because I’m American and it adds a little more charm for me.

I also, for whatever reason, like stories where one of the MC learns to love again after unexpected heartache. I really liked Holly Jefferson’s character. She’s charming, but with a solid head on her shoulders and stands her ground. Ciaran, to me, is realistically portrayed as this man with a rich and charmed life yet doesn’t want that to be his defining attribute. Both Holly and Ciaran aren’t looking for love again and fight whatever starts to brew between them; it doesn’t long until they start wearing each other down, little by little.
The plot is pretty basic for this kind of romance story, it didn’t exactly blow me away, but I think overall the simplicity of the plot worked. I also enjoyed how they created a foundation of friendship first before letting their romantic feelings out. Of course, Holly tries to make problems or jumps to conclusions about Ciaran, but eventually things come to work out.
This ended up being exactly what I expected, a cute and charming contemporary romance novel.
